Senior Executive, Managing Director, Senior VP, CEO, HealthCare Industry Specialist
senior healthcare executive, brand builder, and customer service guru with a mission to achieve guest delight—the top range of the customer satisfaction meter. Grant’s energy and innovative management style has helped hundreds of people—from guests to managers and staff—all of whom have benefited from his energetic style that embraces change, improves the status quo, contains costs, and guarantees excellence as a natural result of the operational turnarounds he drives.
Over the course of a career that has spanned more than a decade and a half, Grant has made his way up the corporate ladder—first in the hospitality sector in Australia where he learned the fundamentals of service excellence that shaped his underlying philosophy, then as Senior Vice President, Operations for the Apollo Hospitals Group in India where in less than a year, he effected the type of change considered revolutionary in challenging the entrenched culture so often seen in the healthcare sector, and to today as Chief Operations Officer of Global Medical Solutions where he turned around a client so upset with previous company performance that they went to tender 1 year before contract expiry to a client so happy their extended the contract at a 50% increase.
With each opportunity in the hospitality sector early in his career, Grant gained a wealth of experience and continued to build his reputation for professional excellence and personal integrity. As he grew and continued to develop the qualities that brought him success—creativity, problem solving ability, enthusiasm, persuasiveness, leadership and effectiveness, Grant discovered within a strong desire to apply the same customer service and business principles to the healthcare sector—a goal considered by many at the time as “impossible” such was the entrenched culture that tended to spurn change and reward promotion based on tenure rather than results and performance. Despite the challenges that were evident, Grant began to envision himself in a new role.
In 2002, Grant expanded his horizons by securing a position with the Amity Group in Sydney, Australia as the Group Manager of Hospitality Services. Attracted by a company that aimed to gain a competitive edge by creating Australia’s only 5-star nursing home of the time, Grant seized the opportunity to sharpen his skills in turning around an embedded mindset across the existing network that had borne an institutional approach reflecting unprecedented numbers of guest complaints and a general reluctance shown by management to invest in improving infrastructure and facilities.
Empowered by his extensive business background in hospitality, outstanding communication skills, and astute business prowess, Grant headed the launch of the first five-star nursing home in Australia overseeing all details from staff hiring, to logistics, stock ordering, and outsourced cleaning services. His purpose was, in his own words “to make a difference by helping staff rise to the highest levels of job satisfaction and success”. To that end, Grant employed a proven method of leadership that he utilised as a manager in hospitality, as he improved quality, negotiated national supplier contracts that saved hundreds-of-thousands of dollars, and delivered wage savings through efficient rostering and resource allocations.
With passion and creativity, Grant has shared his perspective on what it takes to succeed in the service sector, capturing the admiration of leaders in the healthcare industry keen to improve the status quo. Grant has worked with dozens of CEOs and Managing Directors in communicating the brand, processes and strategies that have supported profits, growth, staff empowerment and vision.
