Not being able to work, and mounting medical bills forced her into bankruptcy.  “This has pretty much ruined my life,” she said, “I can’t work, I can’t sleep, I don’t eat right, I can’t get around the house; it’s just been a mess, so when my daughter found out about medical tourism, I thought we could do this.” 

“And the way that we’re doing this is the amazing part of the story,” said Downie, “I have an incredible group of girlfriends.  They have gotten together and are doing fund raisers and collecting money to send me off to Costa Rica.”
