It's a phenomenon that involves Westerners traveling to a developing country for a medical procedure. India alone will see 1.1 million health tourists in 2009-11. The providers of these type of services advertise the concept of quality surgical treatment for a fraction of the cost.

Who provides this service? Some of those clinics are set up as satellites of Western medical institutions. Some of them are homegrown. Whatever they might be, what are the consequences of medical outsourcing?
