Presently "we surgeons get one day per week, on average, but that doesn't mean we get 52 days per year in the operating room because of of holidays, emergencies, vacation and other reasons. "We now have six OR's - up from five - in use and that will increase to seven in the new year.
"We still don't have enough support staff like anesthetists, operating room nurses, or post-surgery staff"
Speaking for himself and his working colleagues, Nelson said his hip and knee surgery patient wait time in about one year.
"But I'm a bit of an exception because half my practice involves children."
Dr. Michael Moran has waiting time up to 2.5 years while Dr. Roger Purnell has waiting time of 2.5 to three years, Nelson said.
