Colorectal cancer, also called colon cancer or large bowel cancer, includes cancerous growths in the colon, rectum and appendix. It is the third leading cause of cancer-related death in the Western world. It is more common in people over 50, and the risk increases with age. You are also more likely to get it if you have:
1. Polyps - growths inside the colon and rectum that may become cancerous.
2. A diet that is high in fat.
3. A family history or personal history of colorectal cancer.
4. Ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease.
